Obiter Research President Receives Technology Transfer Award 3/1/2007 Dr. William (Bill) Boulanger was presented with the Technology Transfer Award by the Vice Chancellor for Research of the University of Illinois, the Academy for Entrepreneurial Leadership of the University of Illinois, and the Champaign County Economic Development Corporation. The award was presented at Innovation Celebration 2007 held at the University of Illinois, Alice Campbell Alumni Center, on February 21st, 2007 as part Entrepreneurship Week USA.
Innovation Celebration 2007 recognized individuals and organizations that made significant contributions, took risks, and provided leadership to ensure the continued economic success of Champaign County, the ongoing success of the University’s economic development mission, and the growth of entrepreneurial talent and energy in our community. The Technology Transfer Award is to recognize someone who has successfully commercialized innovation, either themselves or through commercial channels as evidenced by accomplishment. Obiter Research, LLC has become a source of pride for the University of Illinois Research Park. Obiter started as a one-room, one-person, operation within the University of Illinois business incubator manufacturing specialty and hard-to-find chemicals. Today Obiter has grown to 12 staff members and five labs. Obiter broke ground on their new facility in north Champaign on July 20, 2006 and expects to take possession in mid 2007. At the groundbreaking, Obiter and its staff were hailed as, “good citizens of the incubator” and, “a model for start-up companies.” Dr. Boulanger was accompanied at the
